Today , I want to speak about how to see an invisible God?, because in the Christian view, we believe in God who we cannot see, but we believe in him and we live with him. We speak to him. We feel his touches as we believe that we are his children.
And we can feel his love, his care all the time. So how can we reach this level of faith, how to have this kind of relationship with someone who I cannot see by my eyes.
First of all, I want to read some of the verses written by one of the apostles, St. John, because this man lived till the last years of the first century .
And he had seen all his friends, all his colleagues of the apostles. They were martyred many years before his death, but though he kept his faith strong and he believes so much in the control of the Lord Jesus Christ upon all the world. And he faced many times of hardships, he was persecuted many times he suffered a lot, but his faith was very strong.
So with his last days, he said that it in this way “ That which was from the beginning, which was, have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and our hands have handled concerning the word of life. The life was manifested. And we have seen and bear witness and declare to you that eternal life, which was with the father and was manifested to us that, which we have seen and heard, we declare to you that you also may have fellowship with us and truly our fellowship is with the father and with his son Jesus Christ and these things we write to you that your joy maybe full, this is the message, which we have heard from him and declare to you that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. “
So speaking about God is not speaking about the theory, about an equation, about a book to be read. He was speaking about a person to communicate to, to live with, to relate to, to feel his love.
He was speaking about the one who was from the beginning, the everlasting God, he is the over, you know, beyond all times. So he said that we have heard him, then God is always speaking. He said, we have seen him so we can see him in a way. Also, he said that we have touched him so we can feel his touches ,definitely, John was speaking about the period he enjoyed listening and watching and touching the Lord Jesus Christ in flesh, but he lived like more than 70 years after this time, after the crucifixion of the Lord and the ascension to heaven, he lived declaring the good news. And he suffered a lot because of this, but he never ignored the experience.
And he was teaching many people to come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ to come to touch him, to talk to him, to listen to him. So John considered that his experience is not kind of his only personal experience is to be delivered to everyone. Any man can enjoy the relationship with God, the real God, although he is invisible.
Believing in invisible things
So when we speak about faith, we need to define faith, by you know, you believe you trust in things, which you cannot see. Some people may say I can never trust in things, which I cannot see, but that’s not the normal attitude of people.
Because if you look around, you can see all people living in beliefs like everyone now trusting that the COVID 19 virus is an aggressive one and we should take care and we should be aware of this infection.
And no one could see this virus by eyes apart from very little number of some of the scientists, but everyone believed in this . And live their life. According to this belief,
we believe in the electronics and waves, and we can never see these things, but we are using the mobile phones. We are using the media, the internet, although we cannot understand fully what’s this thing and how it works, but we still, we trust in this so much.
Believing in an invisible God
So men can trust in things which they cannot see. So by logic, by reasoning, we never ignore the logic because the mind of man should be honored because it’s also created by God’s hands, by the minds of men. They can understand the existence of God and also the touches of his existence. So that’s the approach of the intellect, the road of intellect, the road of mind to come closer to God.
Christianity respects mind
The philosophers can know God and the very simple people can understand God, definitely, we never mean that God should be comprehended fully in the mind of men because that’s beyond comprehension. We cannot grasp the knowledge of God fully in our mind. But we can know him. So by logic, by science, by reasoning, we can put our hands on the designer ,the creator, we can feel his touches.
He is always there. We can never, ever accept that all these organized things, especially men ,made by no one or with no design or with no wisdom. So Christianity respects mind, respects logic and reasoning. And by these reasonings, we can come closer to the knowledge of God’s. And by this we can see the invisible God, because we can see now the natures are speaking about God .
The wind, the trees, the birds, the clouds, everything around speaking about the designer, the artist behind these things. Also, we can come to the knowledge of God or to see the invisible God by experience , Being a real person. We can speak to him. We can feel him. We can look around, you know, seeking his presence and his touches.
That’s why it was used the words in the Bible “ Heard touch to see, to talk because God is the person.” So when you start praying and when you start listening, to the voice of God from your heart, from the people living around, from the events happening from the nature. So the sound of heaven is always there, but it needs someone to listen carefully.
Listening to the voice of the invisible God
So when we speak these simple words with the children, they can adopt easily the truth and they can follow faith and they can enjoy having God in their life. They can start speaking to him and feeling his touches. So to see the invisible God, we have to look around and we have to be quiet for some time thinking and meditating in order to listen carefully to the voice of God.
Then when we come closer to God, we start speaking about him because again and again, he is not kind of a theory to explain , He is someone to speak about when you love him and you can easily present him because you have a real relationship. That’s why after a long experience with the Lord, Jesus Christ, he said to the disciples “ Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, the son, and the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.I am with you always, even to the end of the age , Amen “
So he is always there and we can see him touch him and live with him all the time. So when you trust God, you can see the difference happening in your life. You can feel the security you had never felt before. You can see things changing in your life, because now you are putting all things on his shoulder.
You are relying upon him. You are speaking with him all the time. He’s sharing you in your details. Now you have a friend now you’ll have a father. Now you have a shepherd. Now you have a king. So go and enjoy this kind of relationship. And you will not pay any money, but you will be showered with blessings .
Also St.Peter made it this way “ Whom having not seen your love – although you had never seen, but you love – though now you do not see him yet believing you rejoice with joy, inexpressible, and full of glory receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” , so when we trust in God, when we come closer to his knowledge, we are enjoying a better life here and also an eternal life given by God as a blessing as a gift.
Also, when we speak about Christ we are speaking about the Christ as revealed by himself, we are not adding to the knowledge of God . We are just accepting the knowledge of God. God should speak for himself. God is revealing himself to his people his way. So we are not inventing gods. We are not making ideas about God.
We are not trying to convince people with some philosophies about God. No, we are just accepting God as revealed. So God came to us in order to be touched. God lived as a man in order to be seen, God gave his teachings and that was reported in the Bible. God,you know, blessed this world with many things who followed him, who lived with him, who became Christ-like, so we can see Christ in his people, in his saints also in his natural things.
Again, saint John said “ If we walk in the light as he is in the light , we have fellowship with one another. So we need to walk in the light to see Christ and the blood of Jesus Christ. His son cleanses us from all sin.” , so when you walk in darkness, when your heart is full of hatred, when you follow your lusts ,now you can never know God, because you are walking away against his way. But when you try to catch the light of God to live in his light, to practice the real Christian Love to serve people and to avoid sinful things, you know, now you come closer to experience God in your life.
So the work of the church, the real church in this world is to deliver the real knowledge of Christ and to invite everyone, to come to know the real God and to see the invisible God through the members of the church and through the creatures God created.
And by time these invited people will experience God their ways. They can see him in their hearts, in their daily life. They can listen carefully to his voice. They can start studying the Bible words and see what’s behind this words. So why don’t you trust an invisible God, although you trust many other things, which you cannot see, may God bless you all.Amen.
